I’m Sonja St. John, Creator of the Math Level Up Summer Challenge for Boys (ages 9-11). I have been a strong advocate of exposing young bright minds in elementary school to the fascinating world of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM). Additionally, as a former NFEC instructor, I understood the importance of math and teaching financial literacy to children.

Discovering my bright, curious and energetic son was struggling in math and falling behind was a serious concern for me. As a pro-active mom, we implemented tutoring, math workbooks, Kumon and other educational support services. When I noticed how much he enjoyed playing video games, I finally understood the universal truth that children enjoy learning when learning is fun!! On the other hand, it appears our educational system has made elementary math overcomplicated for both teachers and students. That is the problem I intend to solve.

The Math Level Up Summer Challenge was created to identify gaps or learning losses specifically in young boys (ages 8-11), provide a stimulating, challenging and fun math learning experience, and accelerate math skills and self confidence. What better way to teach students who struggle with Math than utilizing software with the elements of gamification, AI adaptive technology, and the latest advances in childhood education?

We are not simply teaching math skills to young boys, we are on a mission to mentor and inspire the next generation of innovative problem solvers. We are seeking to work with parents and teachers in the Prince Georges County community.
