Accidents happen. Even when you're very careful, accidents can still occur when you least expect them. It's not any different when using a cell phone. When you're using a phone, you might accidentally drop it, thump it, or sit on it. Or worse, you can get it soaked and ruin the whole device. The good news is that there are actually ways to save a wet cell phone and here are the things that you need to do in case your phone accidentally goes swimming.

Actions to Take

Get it out of the water quickly. The first thing you have to do is, of course, get the cell phone out of the water. Yes, you might be in shock when your expensive iPhone or Blackberry hits the water, but snap out of it and get it out as quickly as you can! If a liquid has been spilled on it, rub it dry with a clean cloth to remove the water before it seeps into the mechanism of the device.

Turn off the phone right away. Just as important as getting it out of the water is turning off the phone. Make sure that you don't wait for a couple of seconds or minutes before you turn off the phone. Remember, water can do more damage if the phone's power is on.

Determine what kind of liquid the phone has been in. Is it salt or fresh water? If it has been drenched or soaked in salt water, take the phone apart to remove the SIM card, battery and screen. Rinse the remaining parts of the phone with fresh water to remove salt residue that can instantly corrode the parts of the phone. Then, grab a towel and dry the phone immediately after rinsing. Place the phone on top of a towel to absorb excess water. Dab the different phone parts with a towel so they can dry more quickly.

Another good alternative would be to place the parts of the mobile phone into a bowl then fill it rice grains, which will absorb the moisture out of the cell phone parts. Repeat the process using a different bowl of dry rice after every hour. Once the phone is completely dried, you can assemble it back together and try turning it on. If it still won't work the right way, turn it off again and take it immediately to a professional repair center.
