In April 2019, Sophia Mayberry joined the Arizona Department of Education under Superintendent Kathy Hoffman as a project manager. In this role, she serves as a team leader who provides leadership, guidance, and recommendations in managing projects for the office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Sophia’s experience ranges from corporate event planning to non-profit communications and facilitation. She has honed her communications, event/meeting planning, and research skills under the leadership of communications professionals at statewide community benefit agencies. Most recently she worked as the Program Manager at Valley Leadership. In this role, she managed the planning and execution of VL’s programming, including the Leadership Institute Accelerate, Valley Leadership Youth and Alumni programming. As a result of her work, VL saw an increase in attendance and participation by developing a new and innovative program that has attracted new candidates to the VL program.

Sophia is a native of Phoenix. She has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication. She has her certification in special event management from Arizona State University. She volunteers at nonprofits across the valley. Her main focus is on women’s healthcare and foster care children. In her free time, she enjoys baking, reading, going to the movies and spending time with loved ones
