Rick Smith

Kansas City, Missouri

I am an artist, an aspiring author, and an attorney-to-be. Last year I graduated from law school, and I am purposefully pursuing a meaningful career. Above all, I value family, friendship, faith, and freedom, and I hope to make a difference for good.

I enjoy being engaged in worthwhile endeavors. Beyond my extensive leadership at home, at work, in scouting, and in schooling, I have been a mascot, peer mediator, missionary, teacher, and much more.

LAW. Law school opened my eyes to a world of needs and opportunities. I purposefully took a variety of courses ranging from intellectual property to water law. I interned with the Kansas Corporation Commission for one year, researching administrative issues and drafting orders on technical utilities-related subjects. Toward the end of law school, I developed a strong interest in international law, which I hope to encounter in my career.

ART. My wife and I met in a college drawing class, and our dreams took off from there. We primarily do portraits, but our creative drive takes many forms. Though we are not in it for the business, we have big plans to continue producing, teaching, and sharing our love for God's gift of creativity. See our stuff at ArtSmithProject.com.

FAMILY. Our happy, growing family likes to get outside. Hikes, bikes, balls, and falls—we do it all. Anything in the fresh and open air. Last year we grew spinach and beans as our family crop, and this year we have become quite attached to the idea of a cat, pigeon, or other friend of the family. We are not always a perfect picture, but we are trying and growing together. And we value our family time!

AROUND THE WORLD. We are an ambitious, traveling family. We currently live in St. George, Utah (near Zion National Park). But we have been all over the map. I was born in Indiana, and have lived in five other states: Texas, Utah, Ohio, Kansas, and Missouri. My wife and I have both lived internationally: she in Hong Kong for three years, and I in England for two years. We love meeting new people and exploring new places!

MORE about me. Music, writing, and running are all a big part of my health and well-being. I love the wind in my face, which I have felt at high elevations and extreme speeds while skydiving, barefoot water-skiing, hot-air-ballooning, and of course snowboarding.
