Shelia Smoot

Shelia Smoot has occupied many roles in her career, including anchor, reporter, instructor, counselor, commissioner, and business consultant. She attended Michigan State University and earned a B.A. in Telecommunications, then spent two years as a Job Counselor at Beecher High School in Flint, Michigan, before landing employment as a Production Assistant with WJRT TV. Shelia Smoot took on increasing amounts of responsibility in the news industry, ultimately serving as News Director of a radio station in Lansing before moving to Birmingham, Alabama, to serve as Bureau Chief and Reporter for WVTM NBC 13. In this role, she wrote and reported content for daily newscasts and covered a region of nine counties. Smoot was also the first News Director for powerhouse station WBHK KISS FM in Birmingham.

At the top of her reporting career, Shelia Smoot served as the Anchor for WBRC Fox 6 in Birmingham, where she headed up daily newscasts Good Day Alabama and Fox Six News at Noon. She wrote and investigated potential stories and provided oversight to other reporters. In recognition of her work, she was named the Best Investigative Reporter and Best Specialized Reporter. Shelia Smoot left the station to pursue a path as a Jefferson County Commissioner. She was elected to the position in 2002. In addition to managing multiple departments, she redesigned the fleet operation system, ultimately saving the county $15 million. She also created Jefferson County's first technology park, Jefferson County Metropolitan Park at Lakeshore.

Presently Smoot puts her background to use as a Business Consultant with Networks Media Consulting, Inc., where she helps clients develop new business projects. She also serves as the Director of New Business Development for the National Ventures Group. In this role, Smoot helps the Atlanta-based hotel enterprise find new markets for hotel development in Alabama. She is also the host of her own radio and television talk show, The Shelia Smoot Show, which airs statewide in Alabama.
