Sofia Chavez-Barroso
I was born and raised in Torreon, Coahuila located in North Mexico. Torreon is known for being home of “El Cristo de las Noas,” the 3rd biggest Christ in the Americas. Torreon is also known as the home of the greatest Football Club: ‘Santos Laguna.’ Upon graduating high school, I decided to to pursue my college education in the United States. This decision allowed me to move to El Paso, Texas in 2005 to get my bachelors in Electronic Media with a minor in General Business at the University of Texas at El Paso. Attending UT El Paso allowed me to settle down and establish roots for 5 years. During that time, I have had the opportunity to meet great people that will forever be my friends. Meeting these people made my college experience more enriching. My life experiences in El Paso gave me the inspiration to work hard to achieve my academic/career goals. I made sure to learn and experience everything I could while living in El Paso. Upon getting my bachelor’s degree in Electronic Media it became clear that Graduate school was the next logical step for my professional development. So, I applied and was accepted to the University of Texas at DalIas in their Masters in Emerging Media and Communication program. Since August 2010 I have been in Dallas pursuing my Masters Degree. Now that I’m about to graduate I am looking to put my education and practical knowledge to work in Sports Communications (Media), social media and/or project management departments.
