Running To Be YOUR Next VP COMMS 26-27
Hey hey everyone! My name is Sofie Khan and I running to be YOUR next VP Communications for the 2026-27 school year.
I'm currently a second-year of computer engineering student, going into my third at TMU. Born and raised in Toronto (I consider myself a city girl loll). I enjoy playing basketball, volleyball, and staying involved wherever I can!
This year, I had the opportunity to serve as the Computer Directoras part of the MUES Board of Directors, representing a community of 6,000+ engineering students.Through hosting hackathons, study halls, professional and social events, and collaborating with external partners, I learned how to listen to student concerns, advocate effectively, and communication clearly across diverse groups.
Outside of school, I love road trips and travelling, and cars, which naturally led me to content creation (yes, I vlog). In my free time, I like to be crafty (crochet and embroidery), build programming projects, create content (I vlog guys), and yapping. I also lead my non-profit organization, MiracleMinds, where we educate low-income and marginalized youth on STEM education.
This passion aligns with my role as an Engineering Outreach Ambassador with FEAS,where I work with youth aged 4 - 17 from diverse backgrounds, helping make engineering more accessible and inclusive.
When I ask people how they view me, they often say I'm one of the kindest people they've met who's passionate about whatever she pursues. I love helping people, however I can. I want to change the world and although it's not possible in one day, I want to one day at a time because honestly there's nothing better than brighting someone's day and seeing them smile.
Before TMU, I had the incredible opportunity of being elected as the President of the Toronto District School Board's (TDSB) Student Senate. In this role, I represented over 250,000 plus students at one of the largest school boards in North America. This meant that I advocated for the needs of students from kindergarten to grade 12 and voiced it at meetings. I led a team of 20 executives on the board of directors, organized monthly student consultations, and presented student voices directly to trustees and directors. I also contributed to major initiatives, including student leadership policies, mental health policies, and the famous cell-phone ban policy!!
In my first-year at TMU, I made it a priority to stay involved! I served as a First-Year Computer Engineering Rep for ECEStorms, an Engitor for breakingMUES, and the Ri3D Manager for MetFirstCreates (MFC) inspired by FirstRobotics! Plus, I attended my first conference CALE 2025,which solidified my passion for advocacy, leadership, and creating meaningful change within the engineering community.
I want to continue being involved by amplifying student voices, ensuring clear and accessible communication, and strengthening how our engineering community stays informed and connected.
Your nomination is a stepping stone, in this journey. Let's get it!!
