Sofie Kizel

My name is Sofie and I am a senior studying Advertising at the University of Miami.

I live in a house in Miami with 7 roommates, my dog, and a bunny. The dog’s name is Yoda, the bunny’s name is Kombi, and the people’s names are irrelevant.

In July 2013, I studied abroad in Auckland, New Zealand. Before my arrival, I did some light research and found out that another name for New Zealand is “Aotearoa”, which translates to “Land of the Long White Cloud”. I have been amazed by the beauty of clouds for as long as I could remember, and took this translation as a good sign of what was to come

Over my spring break from the University of Auckland (which was in September because of the seasonal swap), I ventured over to Australia. As I wandered around The Rocks by the Sydney Harbor, I walked into Ariel Books and my eyes fell upon The Cloudspotter’s Guide by Gavin Pretor-Pinney. I turned it over to check the price, and immediately put it down. I could buy 3 drinks with that money!

But as I perused through the other books, I could not get my mind off of the Cloud book. I knew I would not regret buying it. So I turned back around and bought it, and have not looked back ever since.

I am now member 36112 of The Cloud Appreciation Society.
