Growing up I have always been the shy quiet reserved kid who wasn’t up for taking risks or anything outside my comfort zone. I always tried to blend in with the crowd and wasn’t outgoing in nature. These are some aspects I’m still working on myself, but going into college I feel I’ve grown in more ways than one. I’ve definitely become more confident in myself. A large part of my confidence came from the people I’ve surrounded myself with and realizing my self-worth. My roommate and I have definitely gotten ourselves into some interesting situations. Some embarrassing some crazy, but in the end, I transcend into a version of myself that is different from what others not close to me would assume of myself. In other words, I wasn’t as uptight and more willing to do things outside of my comfort zone. One situation I would have never thought I would have gotten myself into a year ago was the starting point of my journey to change. My roommate and I attended a hearing for violating “community guidelines” in our dorm building. Basically, we were being too loud and the people from the floor below us could hear us laughing at each other’s terrible jokes. Mind you it was only the two of us, so I can’t imagine how much noise we could have possibly made. It must have been my loud obnoxious laugh or her loud outside voice. They both came together to cause our downfall. This was definitely a change of events that I did not expect in the least bit. Mind you in high school I never got into any form of trouble so this was definitely a change. Overall this year has definitely been both a struggle and a blessing as I began my journey on transcending into a version of myself I could be proud of, which has also played a role in developing my writing skills.
