Introduction:
Abhishek Soni, currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (Pre-synopsis done on 20 Feb 2024) at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology, is making significant strides in the field of surface engineering. His research focuses on the microstructural and tribomechanical characterization of surface engineering techniques, particularly those relevant to gun barrels used in small arms. Academic Achievements:
Abhishek's academic journey showcases a consistent dedication to excellence. From his Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering at UIT, Barkatullah University, where he achieved a commendable CGPA of 8.94, to his current pursuit of a Ph.D., Abhishek has consistently excelled in his academic endeavors. His Master's in Mechanical Engineering (Design) at the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology earned him a remarkable CGPA of 9.17.
Research Focus:
Abhishek's research revolves around surface improvement techniques applied to tempered martensitic AISI 4150 steel, specifically NiB coating, salt bath nitrocarburizing, NiW pulsed electrodeposition, and hard chrome electroplating. These techniques are crucial for enhancing the performance of gun barrels, a key component in small arms. Abhishek's practical experience includes the utilization of advanced equipment such as the FESEM Zeiss Merlin Compact, Bruker D8 Advance Diffractometer, Nanoindentation apparatus, Mitutoyo roughness tester, DUCOM pin-on-disk machine, and CHI660E workstation. Noteworthy publications include his work on the microstructural and tribomechanical characterization of NiB coated 4150 steel, which was published in the Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance.
Extracurriculars and Hobbies:
Beyond academics and research, Abhishek engages in various extracurricular activities. He has actively contributed to the community by donating blood (A+), and his achievements in poetry, essay, and letter writing reflect his creative side. Swimming, jogging, and left-arm fast bowling in cricket are some of his hobbies.
