I'm a 25 year old woman who's come to realise through a series of unfortunate events just how important diet and fitness are to living a long a healthy life. I grew up eating a lot of junk, not knowing how to cook and just basically living off of mi-goreng noodles. For those of you that don't know, they are less than $1 packets of chinese noodles with absolutely zero nutritional value but super delicious because they are packed full of preservatives and other gunk! After being diagnosed 5 years ago with incurable bowel disease and being told by every doctor under the sun that I cannot cure this through diet, I must simply take medication for the rest of my life, I had flares on the regular for about 2 years. I tried so many different types of medication and was on and off steroids for about as long. However, I managed to stumble across some blogs written by other IBD sufferers who had been healthy for years without medication. To me this was not possible. How could someone be: 1. In remission for longer than a month 2. Not even taken a single medication to ensure the remission?? To give you an idea, at this point I was taking about 6 different types of medication a DAY to manage my condition, and let me tell you - it was not even close to being in remission. I had also started using enemas which heavily impacted my relationship at the time (late night noogie, no thanks). So long story short, I ditched the medication (do not recommend, I'm stubborn as hell though) and over the next week tried different diets. One stuck with me, and 3 months later I was healthier than I had been in 3 or 4 years. I had a follow up with my specialist and he confirmed my bowel was completely healthy. What was this diet? The Specific Carbohydrate Diet. You can find so much about it online, just google it. There's a book, I'd recommend you buy it too. So why am I writing this blog? Because if those individuals had not written about their experiences I would still be sick, exposed to the risk of getting bowel cancer and who knows, maybe one day I'd even have to get it removed. For those of you who aren't sick, keep reading. This stuff will benefit anyone looking to get healthy and simply live a better and more balanced lifestyle. In this blog I will not just post SCD specific recipes (that I've tried and are AMAZING!!) but also regular recipes that include non-SCD foods such as gluten laden oats, seeds, dairy, etc. You might be wondering why I'm doing this - well since I've
