Soni Cochran

Extension Associate and Civil Air Patrol Volunteer in Nebraska

I have a statewide role as Nebraska Extension Community Engagement and Wellness Associate focused on Rural Wellness and Resilience. I'm also serving as the Interim Disaster Education Coordinator. My Clifton strengths are Responsibility, Belief, Individualization, Connectedness, Achiever.

I believe - every person and every interaction matters. I am a teacher.

I am a QPR Gatekeeper Instructor (Question-Persuade-Refer) teaching suicide awareness and am passionate about suicide prevention. I also volunteer with the Hot Springs Veterans Suicide Coalition in SD. Although I'm no longer a Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing for Disabled Veterans volunteer, I believe in the program and its benefits.

I've been in Civil Air Patrol since 2004 and my rank is Captain. I'm a proud member of the 155th Composite Squadron in Lincoln, Nebraska. I have served in a number of leadership roles and currently serve as safety officer. My focus is ground team search and rescue as a ground team leader. I am also a Mission Radio Operator.

I am blessed. I have three adult children and one adult stepson. I am grandma to two granddaughters and two grandsons. I am a Blue Star mom x 2 and a Blue Star mother-in-law x 2. I am also a proud wife of a retired veteran.

My personal interests are the outdoors - hiking in challenging environments, nature including all forms of wildlife (scales, fur, feathers) and plants. I love fly fishing, camping, and preparedness. I am passionate about programs to help grow our resilience. I can't forget my love of German Wirehaired Pointers - Baron for being my <3 dog and Dixie who is always by our side!
