Sonya Melton

Currently teaching courses on such diverse topics as leadership, marketing, business, human resources, and cultural diversity for the Apollo Group, Inc.’s online university, Sonya Melton possesses a background that makes her more than capable of covering such a wide-breadth of subject matter. A combination of her professional success and educational history lends her the capability to explain the multifaceted realm of business theory and its real world application. As an Account Executive with the United Parcel Service of America, Inc., Sonya Melton worked in business development in Richmond, Virginia. Later as an Account Manager in New York City and Market Research Analyst in Memphis, Tennessee, for International Paper Company, she applied sales tactics and market research with great success. This experience proved vital when she moved on to become the Senior Community Sales Director for Atria Senior Living Group - Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia. Her aggressive sales and marketing skills for the assisted living facility improved the establishment’s occupancy and its profits. In 2006, Sonya Melton worked in the educational field in enrollment management at Allen University, a private school located in Columbia, South Carolina. There, she drove strategy development, built integral relationships with the community, and helped establish the brand of the school through a series of creative promotional techniques. Through her collaborations with faculty, administration, staff, and alumni, Sonya Melton helped generate revenue as well as built and enrolled an increasingly qualified group of potential students. Sonya Melton has given presentations and provided consultation services. As a consultant with Gerson Lehrman Group Council, she offered advice to businesses on "Online Education (CPLA) for-profit IT Systems." In 2009, she was a presenter at an in-state high school where she spoke on students transitioning to post-secondary schools to aid with the school's Reaffirmation of Accreditation for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. She has also served as a workshop presenter where she spoke on "Access to Higher Education" for the SC Department of Education, Office of Youth Services-Teen Lead. Sonya Melton earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina. Immediately following this, she received her MBA from Hampton University.
