Korean Cellist Sooyeon Lee was a student of the Preliminary School of the Korean National University of Arts (KNUA) in 2004 after that she educated in Sunhwa Arts School and Seoul Arts High School (Korea) with Hee-Song Song until her family moved to Japan. While there she studied with Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi for 2 years. She returned to Korea to complete her Bachelor of Music at Yonsei University, studying with Sung-Won Yang. During her undergraduate studies she attended 2 master classes by Prof. Jo Cole, who encouraged her to study with her at the Royal Academy of Music (London) where she recently graduated her Master of Arts in Cello Performance receiving a Distinction and the Dip.RAM award for outstanding performance in Final Recital.

She has attended various masterclasses by, among others, Josephine Knight, Colin Carr, Robert Cohen, Ralph Kirshbaum, Thomas Steinhöfel, Jo Cole, Marc Coppey, Philippe Muller, Niklas Eppinger, and Jens Peter Maintz.

She began winning prizes in her early teens such as Competition of Korea-America Youth Culture Foundation, Competition of Music Education Newspaper, YOKOHAMA International Music competition, Korean Chamber Orchestra National Competition, Universal Music Competition, The Music Competition Seoul Soloist Cello Ensemble Concert Competition, Eumyoun Competition and most recently she was the winner of May Mukle/Douglas Cameron Cello Sonata Prize in UK.

She has participated in various international festivals including Kirishima International Music Festival (Japan), Casalmaggiore International Music Festival (Italy), Music Alps Festival (France), and BNK Music Camp as cello section leader in Busan (Korea).

The Royal Academy of Music has provided her with a Curtis Price Scholarship for 2017/2018.
