Sophia Paul

Student in Athens, GA

Hey! I'm Sophia and I have a passion for the sport of American Football (and the one wearing the giant Eagles Logo in the photo above) . Ever since I was a child, I have memories of watching whatever game my parents had on in the background. As I got older and older, I would stay longer and longer and learn the ropes and the rules of this sport. And I fell in love! Whenever our team would score a touchdown, I would jump up with pure excitement and high-five my parents with all my might. It was just a normal weekend in the Paul Household.

Most families in the south would be glued to our television every Saturday watching their team compete (our team was and will always be the Georgia BullDAWGS) but we love gathering around to watch the Atlanta Falcons play every Sunday. So, from Saturday morning to Sunday evening – our household would be football crazy – and I couldn’t have wished for it to be any different.

As I entered high school, my love of football skyrocketed to what it is today. On Mondays when teachers would ask the class what we did over the weekend, I almost always had the same answer – “I watched college football from 9 am to 1 am and then Seven Hours of Commercial Free Football, Only On Redzone! on Sunday.” I would get some looks like “did she really watch that much football?” Damn right I watch that much football every weekend! I “watched” it with my family which means we are all in different rooms because we don’t want to mess with good luck (we are superstitious ONLY when it comes to football). If one article of clothing made our team score a touchdown that means that clothing would be staying on for the rest of the game. We have cried and cheered over many football games. Some noticeable ones are when the Falcons lost the Super Bowl when the Bulldogs lost the National Championship, and when the Eagles won the Super Bowl (school was canceled by the city because of all the celebration that endured). All these moments are the highest and lowest sports memories that I have and I’m glad to have so many.

Football is my passion, and I would not be myself without this love that fuels me. I am attending the University of Georgia with my major being Sports Management because I want to work in professional sports. Ever since a child, I knew this sport and I can’t see myself working in a field not related to football. I love it!!!
