Sören Blom
Software Engineer and Software Tester in Sverige
I have many interests and several hobbies. Even in my work life I have done several different kinds of work, but perhaps not so diverse as I would actually have wanted. A person like me can be called a Renaissance Soul according to one book I read, or a Scanner according to another book. I like renaissance soul better, so I will use that.
Here are some characteristics of a renaissance soul:
* have many diverse interests
* tend to get bored with an interest after a while
* finds a new interest now and then
* are often very passionate about ones interests
* likes to learn many things
* is often better att starting projects than finishing them
* can't settle on one interest
I live in Sweden a bit north of Stockholm, and work in Stockholm as a software tester and test lead. When I’m not working I like to spend time with my family, do some photography, videography and video editing, play the flute, the clarinet and the piano, read books and magazines, and watch movies. I'm also writing a book (but don't know if it will ever get published) and compose some music.
Previous interests that I don't pursue anymore are flying, (I was a private pilot for some years), building plastic models (mostly aircraft) and singing (I sung in choirs and in an all-male quartet).
When I was young I was very interested in science and technology, and this led me to take a masters degree in computer science. I was atypical for a renaissance soul in that I knew fairly well which education I wanted to pursue - many renaissance souls struggle with this because they are interested in so many things.
I'm still interested in science and technology and read quite a bit about these subjects. In later years I have become very interested in personality theory and writings about what constitutes the good life, so I read quite a lot about these subjects as well.
