Soriette Matos Ortiz
Born in Puerto Rico, I'm a licensed Industrial Organizational Psychologist with cross functional experience in Research. Since my early years I knew I had a call in serving those who were rejected and unwanted. Those were the people I wanted to guide and protect. That passion to help others will take me to a road of satisfaction, troubles and challenges. I hated injustices so I was driven many times take action and defend those who I thought were weaker. Some people thought I will become a lawyer but disappointment with the dark side of law will take me other places. I decided to become a Psychologist.
In 1994, I began studies at University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. On this journey, my eyes were opened to different ways of learning, there were no more linear ways, there was not only one way of thinking. Life was full of possibilities. Thanks to Professor Angel Pacheco, I felt in love with research. He offered me to become his Teacher Assistant in Psychological Research Methods while pursuing my MA in Industrial Organizational Psychology. He was an instrument of God, an open door, full of new challenges and opportunities for me.
Today I enjoy being a Psychologist and a researcher who has walked through the valley of life experiences. As quoted in Forrest Gump “Life is like a box of chocolate you never know what you’re gonna get”. So let’s make lemonade out of lemons. Let’s be resilient thru life trials and challenges. Keep dreaming, keep reaching but most of all keep shinning and smiling. Never give up!
