After studying engineering at Strathclyde Uni in Glasgow I moved to Japan in 1989. From 1994 to September 2007 Mary and I published Metropolis, Japan's No 1 English magazine, and we also published Japan Today, which is the world's No 1 news and discussion site.

After 18 years in Japan we moved to Sarasota, Florida, where we ran Kroaky's Karaoke, a private room karaoke business, which closed in 2014.

I have written two screenplays, one of which is about the end days of Mishima Yukio, one of Japan's leading writers. I am currently writing a novel about a Somali refugee who comes to the U.S.
