Consultant in Los Angeles, California
Spencer Alcorn advises cultural and mission-driven institutions during periods of transition, drawing on experience across the arts, media, and philanthropy.
He works with organizations navigating leadership changes, reputational challenges, and major fundraising or renewal efforts: moments when institutions must clarify purpose, strengthen public trust, and align internal and external narratives. His perspective reflects a career spent inside influential cultural entities as well as time spent consulting independently.
From 2016 to 2022, Alcorn directed communications at Sundance Institute, overseeing global media strategy for the Sundance Film Festival and the Institute’s year-round positioning. He co-created the Press Inclusion Initiative, broadening access for historically underrepresented journalists and expanding the Festival’s critical ecosystem. He also co-authored and implemented the Festival-wide code of conduct, formalizing the Institute’s commitment to a respectful, harassment-free environment for all participants.
Previously, he led daily communications operations at the Los Angeles Times (2012–16); he also co-founded the Milken Institute’s inaugural Speakers Bureau (2022–23), working across policy, philanthropy, and the civic sector.
Alcorn is based in Los Angeles, where he maintains an independent advisory practice and takes on a limited number of engagements each year, allowing him to work closely with organizations undertaking meaningful change. He serves on the Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) Preselection Committee and the advisory board of the Los Angeles Reporting Collective (LARC).
