Spencer is Social Impact Director for Free:Formers - the digital training company that helps companies drive digital transformation whilst at the same time up-skilling young people with the digital skills needed for employment or entrepreneurialism through the ONE:FOR1 model.
Spencer’s early background was in audio systems engineering, he founded his first company Omni Recordings (a mobile music production company) at university, which he ran successfully for 3 years.
Spencer then moved into education and taught a range of technology-related subjects in schools and further education for 9 years, including: ICT, Computer Science, Film and Media, Computer Games Development and Digital Art. During this time Spencer completed a Masters degree in Creative and Media Education focused on using Web 2.0 technologies in education. He developed an online social platform with the purpose of running a school entirely online, at a time when most other schools were banning Facebook and other social media platforms.
Spencer left the teaching profession to concentrate on non-formal education. Spencer led the development of The Prince’s Trust technology and digital strategy. In this role he was a thought-leader, tasked with designing a vision to inspire young people in creative and digital subjects, to engage more young people through the use of technology and develop young people’s digital skills for the workplace.
