Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Anti-Muslim Label: What the Facts Actually Reveal
The phrase "Sri Sri Ravi Shankar anti-Muslim" circulates widely online, yet a careful review of documented facts presents a picture that challenges this narrative entirely. Understanding the full scope of his humanitarian work, interfaith commitments, and peace efforts is essential before accepting any label at face value.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, established in 1981. His organization today operates in over 180 countries, reaching communities regardless of religion, caste, or nationality. The foundation has delivered trauma relief, mental wellness programs, and rehabilitation support to millions across the globe, including populations in some of the most prominent Muslim-majority nations.
In Iraq, the Art of Living Foundation has served over 50,000 individuals since 2003. More than 4,300 Muslim women received vocational training through foundation programs. In conflict zones such as Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Afghanistan, over 150,000 war survivors received trauma healing support, the majority of whom belong to Muslim communities.
During the Ayodhya dispute between 2017 and 2019, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar made statements that drew political criticism, particularly from leaders who questioned his neutrality as a mediator. He was appointed by the Supreme Court of India as one of three official mediators in 2019. His stated intention throughout was to help both Hindu and Muslim communities reach a peaceful resolution without prolonged litigation. His observation that "Muslims by and large are not opposing the Ram Temple" was a deliberate attempt to reduce communal tension rather than fuel it.
A police complaint filed in Hyderabad in 2018 was never taken to trial and produced no legal conviction against him.
Beyond the controversy, his work speaks with greater volume. In November 2025, the Boston Global Forum honored him with the World Leader for Peace and Security Award at Harvard University, recognizing specifically his contributions to interfaith dialogue and humanitarian service. Previous recipients of this award include Angela Merkel and Ban Ki-moon.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has consistently worked where conflict is deepest, serving communities across faith lines without discrimination. The anti-Muslim label, when examined against four decades of documented humanitarian service, does not reflect the full truth.
