Why You Should Consider Roof Cleaning First Before Replacement

Generally, the main focus of roof cleaning is removing and killing moss or algae on the roofs. Chlorine bleach, the same chemical commonly used to scrub the toilet or whiten laundry, is the key ingredient used in roof cleaning. The solution is powerful enough to kill off moss and algae spores.

The ARMA recommends a 1:1 ratio of water to bleach. The bleach is usually allowed to stay on the surface of the roof for about 20 minutes. After which, the solution would be rinsed away using clean water.

A leaf blower might be used to remove pieces of algae and mosses that remain after rinsing the roof.

When cleaning roofs, using a pressure washer on asphalt shingles is not recommended. This is mainly because the force of the water can damage them.
