I'm a harlequin Great Dane. A little over two years ago I was a backyard dog. I was dirty, malnourished, and slowly dying of heartworm disease. My owners abandoned me to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (Alabama). Most dogs in such condition are simply put to sleep to end their suffering. But the veterinarian thought I could be treated for my sickness, and through good fortune I found a loving home and a purpose in life. I've gained 30 pounds and was trained to be a balance assistance service dog. I've been a service dog for three years now and love it. I get to ride in the car and go everywhere with my Mom, wearing my harness for her to hold onto as she walks. It's kind of special to have a job. Then at home I'm off work and just get to be a dog with toys and a big soft bed. My amazing story has been featured in a local newspaper, magazine, and television. I like helping people learn more about service dogs, and my Mom founded Alabama Service Dog Advocates, Inc., to educate people about service dogs and advocate for their use and acceptance in society. I'm available for interviews, photo modeling, and dog product endorsements.
