Sasha Wizansky
Sasha Wizansky is a publisher, art director, and graphic designer and holds an MFA in sculpture.
She has spent a career creating books of all kinds, from mass-market trade books to richly visual magazines to one-of-a-kind artist's books.
She launched Pencil Magazine in 2024. It is an experimental, twice-yearly print publication in which all contents — text and images — are created in graphite pencil on paper. This project celebrates the humble pencil, analog experiences, and reclaiming our attention.
In 2007, Sasha co-founded Meatpaper, an internationally distributed quarterly journal of art and ideas about meat, and she was editor-in-chief and art director until the last issue came out in 2013. Meatpaper’s mission was to create a non-dogmatic forum in which to explore the ethics, aesthetics, and cultural significance of meat.
Meatpaper received a Print Magazine Regional Design Award, several Utne Independent Press Award nominations and "Best of the Bay" awards from San Francisco and 7x7 magazines. Meatpaper was included in a design show at the Walker Art Center and Cooper-Hewitt, and appears in the books "The Modern Magazine," "Delicate: New Food Culture," and other publications.
Sasha is part of a network of artists who collaborate on objects and events at the intersection of food, art, design, performance, and community.
