Michael Crowell
As a 2009 graduate of Lindenwood University, I have gained teaching experience at the tenth through twelfth grade level, in the Lincoln County R-III District. Teaching in Troy’s block schedule allowed me to integrate technology such as Smartboards, laptops, iPods, and webcams to enhance student learning. Before Troy Buchanan High School, I was a bi-lingual Head Start employee for Youth in Need in St. Charles, MO. Additionally, I also have three years of experience substitute teaching within the Fox District and the St. Charles City School District.
At the present time I am teaching first and second year Spanish at Troy Buchanan High School. This position enables me to provide students with a firm foundation of basic Spanish skills. I am challenged to be creative, nurturing and most of all, patient. I further enhance Spanish language experience for my students by sponsoring the Spanish Club at Troy Buchanan and starting a new chapter of the Hispanic Honor Society. Furthermore, I started a German club for those interested in broadening their horizons for other cultures and languages as well as am taking students on trips abroad to experience Spanish first hand.
Knowing Spanish created many opportunities for me to study abroad. I studied the Spanish language in Valencia, Venezuela as well as in Heredia, Costa Rica. In addition to studying, while in Costa Rica I made a trip to Nicaragua to live the unique culture therein. I went on a trip to Mexico to study Chichen Itza, the capital of the Mayan people and further improved my Spanish speaking skills. These opportunities to experience and understand the language first hand gives me a unique perception into these countries' specific cultures and perspectives. One that is most valuable in teaching a second language to learners.
It is my goal to combine my range of experience with my ability to be an empathetic, excited, and intellectual teacher who will make a positive contribution to any school.
