Sreyamsa Bairiganjan

Sreyamsa Bairiganjan has spent nearly two decades contributing to sustainable development, clean energy, and climate finance through leadership roles at organizations like the World Bank, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Arc Finance, and the World Resources Institute (WRI). His work has consistently focused on advancing innovative energy finance models and promoting inclusive, scalable solutions that balance economic, social, and environmental outcomes.

At the World Bank, Sreyamsa led initiatives such as a $535 million program in Bangladesh to enhance access to finance and a $117 million program in the Maldives that integrated solar, storage, and grid upgrades. His efforts earned him the "Above and Beyond Award" from the World Bank’s South Asia Region in 2021. Earlier in his career, at Arc Finance and WRI, he supported the growth of renewable energy enterprises, particularly those working on decentralized energy solutions, and facilitated south-south collaborations to mentor enterprises focused on inclusive growth.

As part of the WRI-New Ventures Program, Sreyamsa provided investment support and due diligence for cleantech and water startups, helping leverage $377 million in investment capital and leading two IPOs that collectively raised approximately $100 million across six countries. At Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, he continues to work on projects that align development goals with sustainability through a triple-bottom-line approach.

Sreyamsa has contributed to the sector not only through projects but also as a speaker and author. He has participated in global forums such as the G20 Inclusive Business Workshop in Berlin, Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum in Rio de Janeiro, and the Asia Clean Energy Forum in Manila. His publications, including "The Last 50 Mile: Understanding Village Level Entrepreneur Networks" and "Power to the People: Investing in Clean Energy for the Base of the Pyramid," have influenced policy and practice in emerging markets.

Committed to capacity building, Sreyamsa has also shared his experiences through guest lectures at institutions such as Johns Hopkins, NYU, Duke, and UNC-Chapel Hill, with some of his work featured as case study material at Duke University and MIT.

With a focus on energy and climate finance, inclusive business models, impact investment, and development finance, Sreyamsa remains dedicated to creating solutions that address pressing global challenges while ensuring sustainability and equity.
