One fine afternoon in February of 2021, I had just gotten home from school and decided that ice cream would be the perfect treat to reward myself after a long day at school. As I sat down at my desk after finishing my delicious treat, I started to feel itchy all over my legs and arms. I thought to myself, this is the strangest thing I have ever experienced. Within thirty minutes, I was completely covered in what I later found out were hives. Because this was my first time having an allergic reaction and I've never had a history of any allergies, I just assumed I had bed bugs instead. Three days passed and the hives still littered my skin. My mother finally grew concerned and took me to the hospital where my primary care provider screened me for the main allergens which could be causing this symptom. A few days later, we got the allergy test results back and found out that my body had suddenly become allergic to eggs. This came as a shock to all of us considering I ate eggs everyday as my only source of protein, and because I had been eating them regularly since I initially had my first reaction as well. My PCP worked with me to figure out how to avoid eggs entirely and how to make my allergic reaction stop recurring. This was an interesting turn of events in my life because one day I was eating scrambled eggs with no reaction, and the next day I broke out in hives because of the eggs in ice cream.
