My name is Snigdha Sabat and my journey to second degree black belt has been an interesting one at least for me. This journey has been filled with extended rest breaks, interruptions, and even destination changes. I started as a white belt back in 2016 with the American Taekwondo Association.

A little back story about how I got started. My dad had always wanted me to join a form of martial arts. I on the other hand was not particularly enthusiastic about joining any form of martial arts, mostly because I hated the idea of doing a pushup. On this particular afternoon, my dad called me downstairs to ask if I wanted to get Chipotle. Fun fact about me: I will do basically anything for Chipotle. I got in the car all excited only to end up in front of a Taekwondo studio. I couldn't even hide my disappointment as I walked into the building with my dad. We were greeted by an older woman who explained to us all the different programs and opportunities I would have if I joined. And the rest is history.

I would like to clarify that I did end up loving my experience and time with Taekwondo. Karate is woven into every aspect of my life, from schooling to social gatherings. I've learned and still continue to learn a lot of lessons in life, including simple things like proper eye contact or how to defend my ground in a disagreement. Taekwondo has taught me how to develop self-discipline, how to concentrate at school and respect my professors.
