The world and life that I see and experience through my eyes are colorful - it has never been in monochrome, solely in black or white colors. From the clothes I wear to the appearance of the sky and ocean during sunrise, the afternoon, and sunset, the green trees, and the red color of confetti at football games, everywhere I look is colorful. However, the one object that gives color to my entire being is an object that only exists in monochrome: the piano.

I have played the various-pitched black and white keys for 14 years, and with that, I have played various genres of songs such as classical, romantic, video-game, film soundtracks, and even my own compositions. My love for the piano has grown over the years where I learned how to express color through what appeared to be a monochromatic object. As an expressive and creative person in my day-to-day life, I wanted to convey emotions in the pieces I played on the piano by attuning them with a sound. By playing specific chords and using different dynamics for various purposes, I was able to express my emotions through my playing to others as well as to myself.

I played and still play the piano during my time as a student, most prominently in high school where I was my choir program’s student piano accompanist. I played for competitions and recitals showcasing my talents through my playing. Quite a part of who I am as a person, both externally and internally, is due to my love for the piano and the experiences I have playing it. If I were asked the question, “Who are you?”, my response would be that I am a pianist with a colorful perspective on life.
