I am a Toronto-based generative artist working in code since 2003. I write rule-based code that produces hard-edged geometric abstraction, realised in cyanotype and ink on paper and panel. My interest in emergence and in where randomness enters a system connects my practice to the 1960s computer art of Vera Molnár and Manfred Mohr, Sol LeWitt’s instruction-based work, and Casey Reas and the open-source community around Processing.

What is Generative Art?

Generative art (Gen art) is a form of digital art that is created using algorithms and mathematical processes instead of traditional techniques.

Gen artworks are created by following a set of rules with parameters defined by the artist, producing a constrained but virtually endless variety of possibilities and making each piece unique.

Gen art has its roots in the early computer graphics and computer music experiments of the 1950s and 1960s. It has evolved into an artistic movement that challenges traditional ideas about art and authorship, exploring the relationship between human creativity and machine- generated processes.
