Stacey has been teaching Chemistry & AP Chemistry for eleven years in Merced, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, & Seattle. Occasionally, she teaches Biology, AP Environmental Science, & CAHSEE Math Prep. She's also taught college level chemistry as well as accelerated chemistry.
Prior to teaching, she was a Peace Corps Volunteer in The Gambia, West Africa working in the field of agroforestry. There she worked with the village school, attempted beekeeping, created natural fencing, & worked with women gardeners.
Before Peace Corps, she worked for Union Carbide (now Dow Chemical) as a paint formulator where she created paint from raw chemical components. Some days her job involved watching paint dry.
Stacey loves sharing her technology knowledge leading her to become a Google Education Trainer. More importantly, she enjoys learning new things to share with her students & other educators. She is currently helping her school transition 1:1 where every student will receive a Chromebook. She is a member of CUE (Computer Using Educators) & likes to present at their Rock Star Teacher Camps & other events.
Having a digital presence is important to Stacey. First & foremost, it keeps educators connected & learning. For many years she did not have a professional learning community & was isolated. Now she is connected to educators both on & off campus & loves bringing back new ideas & resources. She enjoys the synergy of having professional discussions; it keeps her loving her job & coming back for more.
Stacey thinks it is important to reach students in ways they understand. Pencils, paper, & a textbook cannot be your entire arsenal. It is necessary to have lots of arrows in your quiver & to pick the right one to get the learning “job" done. People, not just students, like variety & they like engaging material. Why should school be any different?
