We know the answer to the age-old "nature or nurture?" question is "It's always both." How did it get to be that way? How does environment, taken in the broadest sense of that term-- including socioeconomic status, diet, health behaviors, geography-- mediate the effects of genotypes on the risk of disease? These are the questions I study for a living. And between manuscripts and grant application drafts, I run, hike, travel, and strike an occasional yoga pose.
