Stella KYVELOU, Architect-Engineer graduated from the National Technical University of Athens, PhD in Geography and SpatialPlanning from the University Paris I-Panthéon-Sorbonne and Euromanager in European environmental policy, is currently Asst Professor at the Department of Economics and Regional Development of the University of Social and Political Sciences Panteion of Athens. She is Founder and President of the SDMedAssociation ( www.sd-med.org), an international think-and-do tank dealing with co-operation for sustainable development in theMediterranean, since 2001. She was alsoDirector of the ESPON 2013 ( European Observatory for territorial development and cohesion ) HellenicContact Point and has developed the ESPONTrain, a Virtual learning environment to stimulate interest on ESPON2013 knowledge. She has been member of the Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis Unit of the Greek Ministry of Interior, Public Administration and Decentralisation (1988-2002), visiting Asst Professor at the Department of Environmental Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace (1996-2000) and visiting professor at the Sorbonne University on spatial planning and environment. Her thesis and research focus on coastal tourism, integrated coastal zone management and maritime spatial planning. Author of several articles and books on strategic spatial planning and territorial cohesion, urban and building sustainability as wellas on related innovative financial mechanisms.

In 2011, Stella Kyvelou has been awarded as “Chevalier dans l’ordre des Palmes Académiques” by the Frenchgovernment for her works on sustainability. She is the organiser of a series of international events on sustainable, low-carbon and frugal cities in the Mediterranean, SB05MED&Expo, SB08MED&Expo, ECHOPOLIS 2013, ECHOPOLIS 2015, as well as of many other international events on energy,environment and blue growth related issues.

In the framework of the ESPON Programme she organised a Transnational event in Piraeus, on November 10-11-12, 2014, about Blue Growth and land- sea interactions in Europe and in Greece, focusing on blue growth opportunities to boost youth entrepreneurship, jobs and growth in the mediterranean.
