Stephan Hittmann

In the wake of relief efforts conducted after the World Trade Center attacks of September 11th, 2001, Stephan Hittmann and several colleagues from the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) founded the 911 FUND. Accepting no monetary contributions for their efforts, Stephan Hittmann and his colleagues provide training and donate specialized equipment to emergency response organizations across the globe. As President of the 911 FUND, Stephan Hittmann runs the foundation.

Operating without governmental, political, or religious affiliations, Stephan Hittmann manages the 911 FUND in concert with a team of International Advisory Board Members from the United States, the United Kingdom, Central and South America. Countries that have benefitted from the 911 FUND include Argentina, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, South Africa, and many others.

The 911 FUND provides services to volunteer and professional firefighters and emergency responders at no cost. Stephan Hittmann and the 911 FUND also donate fire trucks along with equipment such as helmets, boots, gloves, hoods, turnout gear, SCBA, and fire hose; ambulances with medical equipment such as prone boards, splints, gauze pads, bandages, and defibrillators; as well as other types of supplies such as computers, industrial flooring, and building materials. Additionally, 911 FUND personnel deliver highly specialized training and technical assistance to improve fire academies and fire stations on a worldwide basis.

A former Executive Director with FDNY, Stephan Hittmann participated extensively in the rescue and recovery efforts on and after September 11th. Stephan Hittmann has devoted the last six years of his life to helping other communities establish and develop sound emergency preparedness programs in case of disaster, be they natural or man-made.
