It's crazy to think how much a person can do in their lifetime. As a graduate from high school in 2006, from a small island in Saipan (a place so few have heard of), I started off college at a late time. Living in a small island, it seemed like there was nothing there. I wanted to be something better. I wanted to do something with my life. As I sat in my science sophomore class in high school, I knew I wanted to go to a university in the US and study nursing. Oddly enough, that wasn't what happened. As I neared the last year of high school, we had a recruiter from the Air Force speak to us. I felt like this was what I wanted to do. I joined in 2007 as an aircraft avionics maintainer!
I thought this was a wonderful step to see the world (I LOVE traveling!) and go to school. What I had not thought about was the idea that school would be a lot harder if I had to deploy or leave all the time. My first year took me by surprise. I knew school was very important. I took three classes on top of my full time duty working on aircrafts. By the second year, I was only taking one per semester. It was getting harder and harder to be around for my lab classes, so I decided to swap my degree to business management. After 7 years of a wonderful career, I thought that it was about time to do something for myself - something I wanted to do.
I chose to leave active duty and join a reserve unit in Georgia to go to school. As a reservist, I am working as a Health Services Administrator. I am also currently pursuing what I wanted to do when I was a sophomore in high school - nursing - at Valdosta State University! I am overwhelmed by the knowledge all my instructors have and can not wait to see what is in store for me!
