Although I am a Texan by birth, I fell in love with the great state of Oklahoma when I moved to attend high school in Konawa, Oklahoma. I then attended East Central University where I received a B.A. in English and Secondary Education. I taught high school English for two years before beginning my graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma. During my time in Norman, I received a Master's degree in English, taught undergraduate courses in Freshman Composition and worked as an editor for the The Auk,a scholarly journal of Ornithology. In 1993 I became a U.S. Department of Education Fellow, earned a second Master's degree in Information Studies, and worked as an assistant to the curator of the University of Oklahoma's Western History Collections. In 1995 I relocated to McAlester where I have lived and worked for the last 24 years. During my career in McAlester I have taught English, coached cheerleading, worked as a library media specialist, McAlester High School Assistant Principal, and most recently as Director of Secondary Education.

My daughter, Avery Holt, is a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma and is actively involved in university life. Being an Oklahoma Sooner is a proud family legacy and tradition!

My hobbies center around my family. I love traveling, cooking for family and friends, spending time with good books and the great outdoors!
