Hey, I'm Stephanie! In my spare time, I take photos, design, and try new activities (I tried riding the flamingo rides in the winter).
I'm especially passionate about working on my music. I was given two choices as a little lad: piano or violin. So, I reluctantly started playing at the tender age of 6 years old on the piano, not knowing how useful it’d be later on. Figuring out the beat, rhythm, and music theory felt so foreign to me. I continued my musical journey into 4th grade where I chose to play the flute alongside piano lessons every Saturday and Wednesday. I continued flute and piano until 8th grade when I moved schools.
I took drama class as a freshman in my new high school. Turns out, I have stage fright. This fact should’ve been clear when my flute started shaking as I played for my symphony band concert. So, I stayed away from events where it required public speaking, which was the main reason I didn't continue the flute and piano. As quizzes stressed me out, I started to also try listening to new types of music, ranging from jazz to classical to Midwest emo.
I decided to look at instruments that appealed to the “High School Stephanie”. I learned basic chords on the ukulele and composed songs with simple melodies. I mainly imitated techniques used by my favorite artists. Around my senior year, I picked up the electric guitar where not only was I concentrated on learning a new instrument but also expanding new music theory and techniques for my songs. I uploaded my songs and covers onto TikTok and Instagram: a new method to get over my stage fright. More recently, I joined a casual band where I learned more riffs and delved into rock.
