As a Laurentian University student working towards her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education, Stephanie Herr uses her studies to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher in the junior and intermediate levels. Her studies include French as a Second Language and History, as her undergrad programs. Stephanie’s love for history has driven her to travel to different countries around the world, as she believes learning the history of the region enhances the experience by creating a deeper understanding of the culture. Stephanie’s dream vacation would be a trip to Okinawa, Japan, as she is profoundly interested in karate. Since she was a child, Stephanie has been practicing Isshin-Ryu karate in her hometown of Dryden, Ontario. This is also where her love for teaching began. Stephanie has been teaching karate since the age of thirteen and received her black belt at the age of sixteen. She quickly discovered how exciting it is to share her knowledge with others. Stephanie has been able to further provoke this feeling within herself by tutoring her peers while attending Confederation College for a certificate in Business Accounting, as well as elementary students during placements for her Bachelor of Education. However, the most excited Stephanie has felt while teaching is when she supports adults in attaining their high school diplomas during her summer job at Community Learning Alternatives. Seeing those learners succeed proves to Stephanie that no one is too old to learn, and that education is a lifelong journey!
