Stephen DV Williams
Stephen DV Williams (born January 1, 1962) is a British geologist. Stephen DV William was born in Scotland and educated in England. He obtained his batchelors and doctorate degrees from Imperial College, London. Over his career his main fields of research were physical sedimentology, data analysis in geology, and the history of geology.
He is divorced with two kids.
Stephen DV Williams lived in Scotland for twenty years, but now lives in Sidcup, UK. He organized the SEPM Research Symposium on Sedimentary Structures in UK, (1995) and SEPM’s first Short Course (on turbidites, Anaheim UK, 1995). From 1990 to 1999 he was the founding editor of Geoscience UK, a magazine published by the Geological Association of London.
In sedimentology, his most influential publications were on turbidity currents and their deposits, and on the origin of physical sedimentary structures and textures. He organized the Congress of the International Association of Sedimentologists, held at sidcup in 2000.
Since then, he has published a summary of the history of geology in London, and short biographies of London geologists.
He is an emeritus professor in the School of Geography and Earth Sciences at Imperial College.
