Stephen Hurley
A teacher for the past 27 years, I've found a real home in the world of education. It has provided me with a context for creativity, critical thinking and connections with some fine thinking and thinkers. It has also enabled me to realize just how much this place we call school is in need of deep transformation!
I'm a believer in the importance of arts in our communities. For me, they are a set of languages that are part of the fibre of our lives. Like all language, the arts allow us to learn and communicate about the world around us in very powerful ways. To deny our children access to rich artistic experiences is as abhorable as not allowing them to read or write.
I love to write, play music, and have a not-so-hidden desire to be a broadcaster!
Currently, my electronic footprint is modest. I do some writing with a wonderful group of transformational thinkers at the Co-op Catalyst. I'm also involved with Education Canada as a blogger and, this year, have begun to help raise the voices of Canadian educators through a new podcast series, Teaching Out Loud. I'm also exploring the edges of thinking about 21st century schools in my own blogspace.
I have a beautiful family: two young sons and a loving wife! For this I am truly grateful.
