Stephen Evans

Stephen Evans has been producing hand-made and wheel-thrown pottery since 1975. Largely self-taught, he has studied with such notables as Robin Hopper, John Chalk and Les Manning. In 2007, he was selected as a resident at Medalta in Medicine Hat, and has also attended classes in Metchosin, British Columbia and at Red Deer College Summer Series.
His latest work captures the moods and colours of the Rocky Mountains. Using ceramic stains and painted clay slips, he developed this motif for functional ware, including teapots, mugs, bowls and plates. Many of his pieces are 'one-of-a-kind', since both the colours and forms vary, depending on their construction and firing.
All of Stephen's pots are dishwasher and microwave safe. They are fired in an electric kiln to cone 6 (about 2000 degrees F). His work has been collected by international travelers and can be found at Evanescence Gallery and Art Studio in High River, Alberta (www.evanescencegallery.com) and in galleries throughout the province.
