I've been blessed with a wonderful family, a job I enjoy and a faith that sustains me always. But am I doing my best all the time? What can I do differently to make a difference in the lives of those around me? I sometimes wonder if others ask themselves these questions.
I started teaching in 1994, I remember saying I'd try the teaching thing for 2 years and see if I like it. Yes I like it and I do strive to make a difference! In 2016 as the school year come to a close, I received a card from one of my graduating students. He was leaving on the weekend to travel to Alberta to start his internship and would not be back for graduation. His card was a hand written note thanking me for teaching with so much passion and humor. He also thanked me for being honest with him when his work was sub-par, for giving him the kick in the butt he needed.
I teach by the motto "Do no harm". As educators we forget how important our words can be. The card was a wonderful gift and a reminder.
Now I'm entering a year off from teaching, I've taken advantage of a deferred salary option available with my employer. Thisyear is a chance to travel with my wife and test drive our planned retirement in 2020!
Thanks for stopping by!
