Montreal, Canada

Stephen Morrissey is a Montreal-born poet. He is the author of nine books of poetry, several chapbooks, and numerous critical articles and book reviews. His next book, A Private Mythology, was published by Ekstasis Edition in Victoria, Canada in the fall 2014.

Morrissey is a poet of the various ways family experience manifests itself, whether in love, in conflict, or in the generations of a family's history. Ancestors, the human psyche, salvation through self-revelation, life's spiritual dimension: these are all themes and concerns in Morrissey's poetry.

Stephen Morrissey is the sixth generation of his family in Canada, his ancestors arrived here from Ireland in the late-1830s. His literary papers are archived at Rare Books and Special Collections, McLennan Library, McGill University.
