Stephen Pett is the author of Sirens (Vintage), a novel, and a collection of poetry, Pulpit of Bones (Morrow). His short work—fiction, nonfiction, and poetry—has appeared in many venues and made the Notable list in Best American Short Stories. His short story, “The Elizabeth Smart Memorial Hike,” won Crab Orchard Review’s 2015 Special Issue Feature Award in Fiction.
For eight years Stephen Pett coordinated Iowa State University's MFA Program in Creative Writing and Environment. He is Founding Editor of Flyway: Journal of Writing and Environment. His most recent stories have appeared in Witness, Red Rock Review, and Cimarron Review.
Stephen Pett is the recipient of many teaching awards, at both Iowa State University and the Native American Preparatory School in Rowe, New Mexico, where he taught for two years while on leave from ISU.
Stephen Pett just completed a novel, The Room of Duplicates.
He divides his year between Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota.
