As a chaplain with Compassus Hospice Care, Stephen Scarff provides pastoral care and clinical grief counseling services to individuals and groups at 11 facilities in underserved Massachusetts communities. Additionally, Stephen Scarff offers spiritual and pastoral care to local hospitals on a volunteer basis through VNA Hospice Services. He previously served as a curate at St. John's Episcopal Church, where he participated in ecumenical and diocesan clergy groups and led community and mission outreach services.

In addition to his clerical work, Stephen Scarff spent three years as vice president of a California-based investment and marketing firm and five years as a wealth manager at Morgan Stanley, where he managed more than $250 million in assets. Throughout his career, he has completed mission work as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Honduras, and he has volunteered with Squash Haven and the J. Paul Getty Center. Mr. Scarff holds a certificate in theology from the University of Cambridge as well as a master of divinity from Yale Divinity School, a master’s degree in education from McGill University, and a bachelor's degree in political science from Boston University.
