Did all my traveling in the 1960s. Read "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac in the early 60s and hitch-hiked from NYC to Iowa, Lexington, Kentucky, Florida and back home to the North Shore of Long Island. I learned the art of hitching by going to Jones Beach every day in teenaged Summers. In 1969 I traveled to the UK (England) for three weeks, rented a tiny Fiat, drank Watneys for 12.5 cents a pint. The exchange rate was favorable to Yanks back then. The following year I went camping for three weeks along the Cabot Trail near Nova Scotia.
When not traveling I worked back stage at the Met Opera on the lights, or on Broadway doing props, or TV studios building sets. Working in show biz sounds like fun but becomes routine eventually. I prefer being outside. This led to working as a recreation counselor.(basketball, basketball, reading tutor). Keeping with my love of outdoors that paid more money than Rec, led me to try being a policeman in Washington, DC. This lasted less than one year. Graduating the Police Academy was a joy. It felt like Christmas. Gun, badge, hand cuffs, bullets, expensive leather Sam Browns, tailor made shirts, pants, coats, hats. But when the rubber met the road it was not for me. I liked the comradery at roll calls and listened to grown men tell that they wanted to be cops since they were eight years old. I thought, I never wanted to be a cop. I wanted to be a professional Baseball player, a Jet pilot, or a Transit Bus Driver, or a Yellow Taxi Driver in New York City. This became my life for fifteen years.(Bus and Taxi).
Thankfully this ended about 1990 when I discovered call centers (boiler rooms), the dot.com bubble, Y2K, and Wall St. I retired six year ago. Worked part time, but reading Quimby, Mulford, Emerson, WmJames, Steiner, Merton, Coelho, Dyer has instilled Spiritually inside me. Like a lighthouse-I want to shine my knowledge and wisdom, Breathe In (here) -Breathe Out (now). Enjoy Stillness
My objective is to attract like minded individuals with vision to make a difference. Always love the opportunity to work as a private tour guide. I am a native New Yorker. I love my city.
If you are planning on traveling to New York City I can met and greet you. Just email me at[email protected].
