Stephon Tynes
These words, so eloquently put by Jessica Hagedorn, profoundly
describe a recurring theme of my life story, my character, and my actions. Born
a black male in a in a place where the odds are not in your favor, raised in a
family that always finished last, and committed to an institution that so many
have abandoned, I've always been an underdog type of guy. My entire life I have
overcome the odds of my circumstances and have succeeded. I have led a very
successful academic career and will be the first in my immediate family to
complete a university education. I have studied in six countries, have
experienced multiple internships, and have sustained a 3.75 GPA in two majors,
Economics and Accounting. After graduating in 2013, I will be starting
full-time consulting for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in New York City.
Like the underdog, I come from a humble place. My honesty,
hard work, and commitment have earned me everything that I have. Nothing was
ever given to me; I never cheated. Still I continue to succeed. This is the story
of the underdog. The underdog often comes out of nowhere. It lives in the
un-mainstream; it is the unnoticed and the underestimated. Ford, Apple, Exxon
Mobil, some of our biggest commercial titans are just to name a few. This is my
story; I perform by trying to do things differently and better than others. I
just may be the next big thing.
