Steph Sands (she/they)
social value exec and playwright in Sydney, Australia
Steph (me) is a Playwright as well as the Head of Inclusive Futures and CSR for Capgemini Australia and New Zealand
I moved to Sydney many moons ago with a sunny dream to fulfill a passion in theatre - where I found I was a much better writer than actor!
I've written many one act plays which have been performed by companies regionally across Australia, semi professional in Sydney, Canada, New Zealand and even Sweden - but that was a long time ago - even before social media so the evidence is thin. After a long break from writing I had an ear worm of an idea and I applied for, and got into, the NIDA Writers studio in January 2026. Hopefully I will finish my full length play (or is it a TV script) soon!!!
Professionally, I'm the most non-suited suit in the exec biz - I fast tracked Capgemini’s Inclusion efforts to become Employer of the year at the AWEI for 2021 & 2022 and now a continued platinum employer. We have also been awarded twice the Recalibrate Gender award for best Enterprise and Intersectional employer.
I have been a highly visible and vocal role model within the LGBTQIA+ community for the past 2 decades taking on leadership positions at the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, establishing the movement Women Say Something and mentoring and contributing to many more organisations and people in between.
I have been awarded a few awards: Best emerging playwright (at a regional one act play festival) in 199something - and associated people choice awards for my work, Inducted into the Mardi Gras Hall of Fame 2014, ACON’s coveted Community Hero award in 2015, and was the AWEI National OUT role model in 2021. In 2023 I was named as one of Stonewall UK’s International change makers of the year. - That blew my mind a little bit.
I'm now I'm updating this bio as a distraction from the script in hand… isn't that the way!
