Sterling Hospedales was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago before moving to the United States at age 14. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served approximately eight years as an infantryman. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Business from Adams State University, along with Paralegal and Advanced Paralegal Studies Certificates. He later earned a Master’s in Legal Studies.

Today, Sterling serves as the Executive Director of 25x4. He is also the author of the following books: Jurisdiction Hijacked: The Unlawful Prosecution of Service Members Since 1987; Red, White, and Blue Waters: The Legal Frontier No One Talks About; Sovereignty and Structure: Understanding the American Constitution; and Classified by Color: Race Distinctions in the Courts.

Beyond the page, he is an advocate, producer, and storyteller, having worked as a producer on several independent films including: In The Shadows (2006), Betrayed (2007), The Sky Has Fallen (2009), Bakemono (2023), Floor #5 (2025), Currents (2025), Room 404 (2025), and Seattle's Very Own (2025), among others. He has also produced several documentaries and three original web series.

In addition to his creative and advocacy work, Sterling leads a mentorship program and hosts a podcast centered on the importance of therapy, particularly for young Black men.
