I don't recall when I've updated this last - but clearly it is out of date...so:
"The Moving Finger writes - and having writ moves on... not all your piety and wit can lure it back to alter even half a line - nor all your tears wash out a word of it." - a paraphrase from The Rubiyat of Omar Kahyam - but the best I can do from memory.
As people of my age do, I have been in a health challenge (crisis?) of late. I presented in December of last year with a stage four lung cancer. A visit to an oncologist revealed some choices: "Six months with NO treatment. Ten months WITH treatment." Not a difficult choice for me.
Now, 4.5 months into treatment the latest PET scan reveals a shrinking tumor - the chemo is having a positive effect and I earned an additional treatment which I had yesterday. Then, I'll have "maintenance" doses every 3 - 4 weeks and see what that brings. I asked, "Is it fair to say that I've bought myself some more time?" The answer: "Yes." "Are you willing to take a guess at how much more time that might be?" The answer: "No." I expected nothing different.
Don't get me wrong - I am very grateful for who/where I am, the life that I've led thus far and am incredibly lucky and blessed to have wonderful family and friends- I wouldn't trade with anyone.... except maybe me a bit younger.
I'm unsure why, given a block of text space that I've elected to enter a sort of blow-by-blow account of my health. But as the oldsters used to say, "Without your health, you've got nothing." And that seems to be more and more true.
My new (Passport) photo prompted a FB comment from an old cameraman friend: "Is that Steve "The Jackal" Marvin?" ;o)
To those who've read the above - please accept my wishes for health and happiness in the coming days. A Good Easter - a a Ziesen Pesach - whatever you chose to celebrate if anything.
Bye for now
